Types of skin

Knowing your skin type is essential for selecting products and establishing a daily skincare routine because each skin type has different needs and requirements.

Composition of the skin:
1- Epidermis
  • Outermost protective layer.
  • Also known as cuticle or scarf skin.
  • No blood vessels; receive nourishment from the dermal.
  • Composed of keratinocytes also called corneocytes; these consist of protein keratin and epithelial cells, which cover and protect the inside of the body.
  • Consists of 5 layers of cells: Stratum Corneum/ Stratum Lucidum/ Stratum Granulosum/ Stratum           Spinosum/ Stratum Basale.
2-Dermal:
  • Also known as the dermis, derma, corium, cutis, or true skin.
  • Composed mostly of keratinized cells.
  • Completely alive layer.
  • 25 times thicker than the epidermis and nourishes the lower epidermis.
  • Made up of connective tissues composed of a semifluid substance containing collagen protein and elastin fibers, both supporting the epidermis and giving the skin its elastic quality.
  • The dermal layer has two layers: the papillary and the reticular, these layers nourish the epidermis and connect the dermal layer to the subcutaneous layer below it.
3- Sebaceous (Oil) Glands:
  • Sac-like glands attached to hair follicles.
  • Produce sebum.
  • 2-3 times larger around facial hair follicles than scalp follicles.
  • Cause {oily skin} when an over-abundance of sebum is produced.
  • Not found on the palm of hands or soles of feet.

The surface of the skin falls into 4 types:
  • Dry
  • Oily
  • Normal
  • Combination

Various factors can harm the skin, including lifestyle, environment, illness, and hormone imbalances. Neglecting the skin can lead to side effects such as flakiness, wrinkles, roughness, blemishes, and a lack of healthy color. It’s important to identify your skin type so that you can use the right products and provide the necessary care and attention to keep your skin healthy and attractive.

-Dry skin:
  • Peeling and flaking.
  • Chaps easily.
  • Wrinkles and fine lines are more visible.
  • Fewer blemishes; not prone to acne.
-Oily skin:
  • Oily.
  • All-over shiny look.
  • Rough texture.
  • Blackheads and enlarged pores.
-Normal skin:
  • Very rare.
  • Fresh and healthy color.
  • Firm, moist, and smooth texture.
  • Freedom from blackheads and blemishes.
  • Does not appear oily.
-Combination skin:
  • The most common type.
  • Shiny T-zone (chin, nose, nasal labial groove, and forehead).
  • Dryness in cheek, jawline, and hairline area.
  • blackheads and enlarged pores are often evident on the nose and chin.
